The has just ended First David Volleyball Tournament, the first Florentine volleyball tournament for the entire LGBT community, which opened on October 6th.
The weekend, organized by the local gay sports group, the MaterialGuys, supported by the Florentine Provincial Committee Arcigay “The Pink Lily” non-profit organization, it went pleasantly: a first meeting for the arriving athletes on Friday at the “Robin Hood” pub and then a real welcome party at the “YAG” disco bar on Saturday evening.
The organization's strengths were a sightseeing tour, including admission to the Accademia Gallery and the Uffizi, included in the registration fee, and then a great deal of simplicity and a strong desire to entertain the 150 participants, including athletes and companions.
The Florence community, not particularly keen on hosting out-of-towners, was encouraged by the "Azione Gay e Lesbica" association, which has a large membership, and the remaining beds were found at the "B&B Colori," which took in 13 athletes free of charge. And then there were the goodies... beautiful black and fuchsia jerseys created by designer Tomas with the brand Aivy.
Finally, with the support of Arcigay Firenze, the tournament's primary aspect—volleyball—was possible because it worked with municipal officials to secure suitable facilities.
In short, it was a great team effort that we hope to repeat next year, striving to make a weekend spent between art, friendship, and sport even more fun and enjoyable.
