We remember the forgotten martyrs

Arcigay is celebrating these days cultural initiatives in over 20 cities For remember the Holocaust – that is, the martyrdom of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, deported and killed by the Nazi-fascist regimes – on the occasion of the Holocaust Remembrance Day which occurs tomorrow, January 27th.

Through testimonies, documents and images – some of which are collected on the site www.memorialgbt.it – Arcigay wants to highlight the tragic experiences of thousands of people who have suffered and been killed solely because of their sexual orientation.

The national president of Arcigay Aurelio Mancuso will participate tomorrow evening at 8:30 pm at the Congress Hall of the Province of Milan at an official commemoration with institutional representatives and high school students.

“Arcigay has worked harder than anyone else in recent years to ensure that the memory of those martyrs, pink triangles and black triangles, would live again with dignity.” – he declares – “Our message wants to serve as a warning for our generations, and to remember how millions of homosexual people are still imprisoned, tortured or killed today in over 90 countries around the world.

Holocaust Remembrance Day is a great opportunity to relaunch our campaign in support of a UN resolution for the universal decriminalization of homosexuality”.

“There are still many stories of homosexuals and transsexuals to be told” – he explains Marco Reglia, Arcigay's head of Historical Memory – “lived lives excluded from societies that did not recognize them, relegated them to the margins and killed them barbarically, along with all the other “different” people who did not respect the tragic rules of the culture of the various totalitarian regimes.

Through the care of memory and the proposal of these initiatives we want to donate to our generations, especially to the youngest, awareness tools to give value to our conquered freedom”.
