The Future Without Respect

“"The criticisms made by the local supplement Bologna Sette of the daily newspaper Avvenire regarding the commercials produced for the 60th anniversary of the Constitution and commissioned by the Emilia-Romagna Region to a group of Communication Sciences students are specious and disrespectful." – he declares. Flavio Romani, coordinator of Arcigay Emilia-Romagna.

“"Avvenire is annoyed by the fact that in these ads, 'families and Catholics are overshadowed by zero-point-point figures,' as if families and Catholics weren't already rampant 24/7 in all media outlets. And as if the family weren't the hottest topic among politicians who love to mention it constantly to please the bishops, except then forgetting to provide any concrete help that would provide real support to the many families in difficulty.”

“We are also certain that what has shaken the future the most has been the commercial featuring a trans woman at a job interview, sixty delicate and ironic seconds, which touch on one of the most difficult moments in the lives of trans people, that is, finding a job. The Avvenire, pompous and arrogant, classifies these people among the "zero point zeros," that is, an insignificant minority not even worth remembering. Yet the Gospel teaches that the forgotten should be the first to be welcomed with open arms.“

“We are amazed at the obtuseness with which the Catholic hierarchy addresses believers, forgetting that the evangelical message is addressed precisely to others, to the 'last'.‘ – he adds Emiliano Zaino, president of Arcigay Bologna Il Cassero – “Starting from the consideration that the roots of our culture are Catholic, it is easy to understand that those excluded are certainly not Catholic Christians and families whose spouses have contracted a religious marriage.”

“The fathers of the Constitution wrote that text looking beyond the years in which it was conceived so that it could be inclusive, to make an ever-increasing number of people citizens. Bigots, rest assured, our Constitution is not that of a theocratic country like Iran, but of a secular one. The young university students and those who selected that work have instead understood the true and profound meaning of the constitutional text. They deserve our encouragement and solidarity against this shortsighted attack.”
