Vladimir Luxuria will be the guest of the fourth edition of Drink a Book, the review of books and authors on gay, lesbian, and transgender issues curated by Circomassimo Arcigay and Arcilesbica of Ferrara.
On Thursday, June 30, at 9 p.m., the winner and commentator of Isola dei Famosi will be present at the Melbookstore bookshop in Piazza Trento e Trieste to present her first novel, “Eldorado,” published by Bompiani.
Known to the general public primarily for her participation in Simona Ventura's reality show, Vladimir Luxuria is a historic figure in Italy's gay and transgender liberation movement. A former left-wing MP, she's a wild entertainer of Roman nights, as well as an actress, singer, and much more.
After a historical essay on the LGBT movement and a collection of fables, Vladimir Luxuria attempts a novel whose title is taken from the most famous gay club in 1930s Berlin, closed by the Nazis after the promulgation of Paragraph 175, which led to thousands of gays dying in concentration camps.
Beyond being a journey down memory lane, Eldorado is a novel that touches on the many places of homophobia past and present, from the homosexual holocaust to the threats against the Mario Mieli club in Rome recently, but it does so by skillfully balancing the tones of tragedy and irony.

The Drink a Book event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Ferrara and in collaboration with Chocolat, a pastry shop and bar located at Via Cortevecchia 54 in Ferrara.
