The Arcigay Arezzo "Chimera Arcobaleno" Committee is celebrating its first anniversary with a very important event. The team, composed of Arcigay Arezzo, Arci Arezzo, and Sprar Arezzo, successfully supported the asylum application of a young man who was today granted refugee status for reasons related to his sexual orientation. A few months ago, the young man had turned to the Arcigay Arezzo Committee for help, having been discriminated against in his home country because of his sexual orientation, to the point of having to flee for his safety. After being heard by the Territorial Commission for the Recognition of International Protection, the young man was granted protection in Italy. He is now being supported by the Sprar (Protection System for Asylum Seekers and Refugees). The project, led by the Municipality of Arezzo, will support him in his integration process, providing food, housing, and support in entering the workforce and finding employment. Sometimes people are forced to flee their homeland because of their sexual orientation. However, thanks to the European Union's legislative work, this type of discrimination is now expressly recognized as a form of persecution. However, in some countries around the world, such as Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran, homosexuality is still punishable by death, and a similar law is currently being proposed in Uganda.
Discriminated against for his sexual orientation, he is saved thanks to Arcigay Arezzo
