The political, legislative, and cultural void that pervades the fabric of Italian society has been made even more evident by the Chamber of Deputies' approval of a farcical bill against homotransphobia, inspired by hypocrisy and opportunism. The introduction of the Verini and Gitti amendment and subamendment renders the Mancino law, a fundamental instrument for combating all forms of discrimination, inconsistent and unworkable, weakening the necessary criminal protections for all minorities enshrined in the measure. This defeats the very purpose of the law, which is to institutionally establish that aggression and discrimination cannot be legitimized in any way or context. For lesbian, gay, and transgender people, and for those who wish to emerge from this country's cultural Middle Ages, the only path is to consistently and dignifiedly advance a project that calls for equal rights, legal and social recognition of relationships, and the protection of individual, marital, and collective integrity. This is the time for rights, and no compromise or delay is acceptable.
We will take to the streets of Italy's cities to demand a system of laws that guarantees freedom, self-determination, and civil rights!
WE WANT:
- a real extension of the Mancino law that fights homophobic discrimination WITHOUT DISCOUNTS FOR ANYONE!
- equal marriage for homosexual people
- other institutions that protect lesbian, gay and heterosexual de facto couples; recognition and protection of homosexual parenthood
- the change of personal data without the obligation of genital reassignment surgery for transgender people
- the rewriting of law 40
