On the occasion of December 1st, International AIDS Day, also this year the volunteers of Antinoo Arcigay Naples And Pride Vesuvius Rainbow, with the support of the’Colli Hospital Company They will be in the square for a day of testing dedicated to sexually transmitted infections.
The appointment is in San Domenico Maggiore Square, Thursday, December 1st, from 9am to 9pm where it will be possible to carry out the rapid capillary test, free and anonymous for HIV and Syphilis and it will be possible to obtain information on screening, prevention, vaccines and the new prophylaxis PrEP and PEP thanks to the voluntary support of the medical staff at the Cotugno Hospital in Naples.
The “TARALLO & TEST” initiative is sponsored by the Colli Hospital (Cotugno Hospital), by Municipality of Naples, from the Metropolitan City of Naples and from Volunteer Service Center (CSV) and sees the support of the historic taralleria LEOPOLD. While waiting for the test, you can enjoy a tasty Neapolitan tarallo.
“Unfortunately, in our country we continue to experience many taboos and prejudices when discussing sex – he states Antonello Sannino, President of Arcigay Antinoo of Naples – This is why our association is at the forefront of combating discrimination, stigma, and irrational fears. We are engaged in a daily battle against serophobia (the irrational fear of people living with HIV). Strong awareness-raising efforts and the dissemination of scientific knowledge are necessary, such as those regarding new prophylaxis and vaccination campaigns. It is also important to continue STI screening efforts, starting with a community-based approach and involving industry associations and local communities.’
“"Early detection of HIV infection allows for prompt initiation of drug therapy, which improves the quality of life in terms of both general health and sexual health. In fact, thanks to treatment, people living with HIV who are stably virally suppressed cannot transmit the infection; U=U means enjoying peaceful relationships and, at the same time, represents an important prevention measure in reducing the number of new infections. Unfortunately, the number of late diagnoses is still high, which means we need to improve awareness campaigns and spread the message that getting tested is a "duty" to oneself and others.". Adds Viviana Rizzo, health manager for Antinoo Arcigay Naples.
- The incidence (cases/population) of new HIV diagnoses has been decreasing since 2012, with a more evident reduction from 2018 to 2020, but increasing in the last two years post-COVID-19. Also in In the Campania region, the incidence of new HIV diagnoses is increasing.. In 2022, Campania had a higher incidence than the national average (3.9 compared to 3.2 nationally);
- In 2022, the highest incidence of new HIV diagnoses was found in the 30-39 age group, while until 2020 it was found in the 25-29 age group;
- For several years, the highest number of diagnoses has been attributable to sexual transmission and, in decreasing order, to men who have sex with men (MSM), heterosexual men and heterosexual women;
- Since 2015, the percentage of people diagnosed with HIV infection late has increased (with low CD4 or AIDS): in 2022, 2/3 of heterosexual males and more than half of heterosexual females received a late diagnosis.
