Gaetano Cosìcomè. As if it were a surname, as if he had acquired it at birth, at the registry office. As if a sign of identity, as if to say, "This is Gaetano, if you like. And that's it." Gaetano visits his family to assert himself, to declare what he has always been, what others perhaps understood and pretended not to. Gaetano has another life, another country, but he wishes his life, his country, were there, where he was born, born Cosìcomè. He can no longer tolerate the lies, the acting, the duplicity, that Cosìcomè and how others would like him to be. Gaetano wants to assert his right to be who he is, even at the beginning, with those who brought him into the world Cosìcomè. He wants to break down in his own home that wall of alienation he still feels in other people's homes, where he has lived for so long, in the daily struggle to fit in.
If rights, even those acquired, are now at risk of creaking, Gaetano wants to nail them firmly to life through the slats of the stage. Gaetano is the mirror of his loneliness, but he also embodies that of the other characters: the loneliness of his mother, the loneliness of his sister,
The loneliness of the neighbor. Public and private roles in the comedy of social life, whose primary rule is to adapt. Gaetano no longer wants to abide by that rule.
