Hands off Careggi! For months now, the discussion surrounding the Careggi center has been based on alleged issues, rumors, quotes from quotes, and snippets of information. For days and days, our community has been deliberately assailed by proclamations aimed at creating alarm, confusion, and prejudice. A veritable profiteering operation in which much of the local and national press has been complicit, treating extremely sensitive issues concerning the lives of trans* people in an ambiguous, incorrect, and sometimes brutal manner.
No more hate speech about us! No more innuendo!
Arcigay Florence strongly reiterates that Careggi's services are necessary and fundamental to ensuring the well-being and right to physical and psychological health of countless gender-variant people of all ages, not only in Florence and Tuscany, but throughout Italy. This is a clear attempt to exploit the services to once again point the finger at that segment of our community that is currently most silenced and discriminated against.
If indeed irregularities have been found, allow us to read the report prepared by the Ministry of Health inspector and let the trans* and non-binary community weigh in on these issues. Let the voices be ours.
We also ask the politicians and institutions of the city of Florence and of the other municipalities in the metropolitan area to state which side they are on and to stand unambiguously in defense of the rights of the LGBTQIA+ citizens of their city.
