The fight for a major and radical reform of family law in Italy has always been a priority for the Casserina community: we have participated in and organized meetings, conferences, and public events on these issues since our club's inception.
We cannot, therefore, remain silent in the face of the petition to repeal some provisions of the Cirinnà Law, promoted by Volt through the Uguali! Committee, starting last May 5th.
Our comrades from Rete Lenford have already explained why, from a legal perspective, this referendum could be counterproductive if the required signatures were collected and the Constitutional Court deemed it admissible. We have nothing to add and invite you to read their reasons, which are also ours.
Like Cassero, we want to emphasize that submitting such a measure to the public without first developing it with the country's LGBTQIA+ associations is a veritable act of cultural appropriation. Volt's action is not for us, but about us: we queers will suffer the consequences of every possible scenario, because we are undergoing this referendum without truly participating in it.
We therefore strongly urge Volt to withdraw the referendum question and to engage in genuine dialogue with queer organizations operating in Italy, to jointly develop a genuine legislative proposal on equal marriage and beyond, building on what has been extensively developed on the topic over the years.
We extend this invitation to recognize their privilege to all citizens, to those who are already Italian citizens, to those who do not have precarious employment. If we ask Volt to take a step back, we ask everyone else to take a step forward: whoever can vote on June 8th and 9th, 2025, please do so and vote five Yes votes on the referendum questions.
The article Cassero invites Volt to withdraw the referendum on (fake) equal marriage and to vote all in the referendums of 8 and 9 June 2025 comes from Keep.
