Arcigay Reggio Calabria: an important milestone with “CAD-enti in Rete” project supported by OXFAM Italia as part of the program Connecting Spheres

Arcigay Reggio Calabria “I Due Mari” proudly announces the victory of the project “"CADenti in Rete – Anti-Discrimination Networks for the Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence Against LGBTQIA+ People"”, supported by Oxfam Italy within the framework of the program Connecting Spheres.

The project represents a key point not only for our association, but for the entire Calabrian LGBTQIA+ community. It is, in fact, a strategic initiative that will strengthen the Anti-Discrimination Centers (CAD) as stable outposts of protection, listening, and support against gender-based violence and multiple discrimination that affect LGBTQIA+ people.

With “CADenti in Rete” we will work on several fronts:

  • a research on good practices of existing CADs in Italy, in collaboration with the University of Messina
  • The strengthening reception and protection services, through specialized training and shared tools for CAD operators;

  • there cultural and institutional transformation, with awareness-raising courses aimed at schools, social services, healthcare, and public administrations, to break down stereotypes and build truly inclusive practices.

Oxfam Italy's support confirms the urgency and importance of investing in a community welfare model that places the rights, dignity, and safety of LGBTQIA+ people at its core.

«This recognition is a source of great emotion and responsibility for us – he declares Michela Calabrò, president of Arcigay Reggio Calabria –. It means giving strength to those who too often remain invisible, it means bringing concrete tools to Calabria and the entire South to combat discrimination and violence, it means contributing to a more just and inclusive Italy. With “CADenti in Rete” we are building not only services, but social and institutional alliances that can last over time.

The project, which will involve associations, public bodies, and universities, represents a turning point in consolidating and enhancing CADs as permanent infrastructures for social justice, advocacy, and empowerment.
