OPPENHEIMER, PUTIN, AND OTHER BOMB STORIES
by Francesco Dall'Aglio and Carlo Ziviello
(East of the equator)
Claudio Finelli, culture delegate of Antinoo Arcigay Napoli, will be in conversation with the authors.
Thursday, March 21st, at 6:30 pm, at the historic headquarters of the association Antinoo Arcigay Naples, in San Geronimo alley 17, the literary review Poet, conceived and directed by Claudio Finelli, hosts OPPENHEIMER, PUTIN, AND OTHER BOMB STORIES by Francesco Dall'Aglio and Carlo Ziviello published by the publishing house East of the equator.
From Los Alamos to the war in Ukraine, a thoughtful chronology of the atomic threat—and threats—in the words of those who invented, tested, studied, depicted, or used the Bomb as a weapon and deterrent. Eighty years of evolution in nuclear language: from the terror and fascination of the Manhattan Project scientists to the apparent unawareness of today, as if politicians and the military had forgotten the demon that lies dormant in missile warheads. An anthology of stories, personalities, military operations, catastrophic errors, and statements from Robert Oppenheimer, Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, and Harry Truman to Vladimir Putin, Liz Truss, Sergei Lavrov, and Dmitri Medvedev, demonstrating the shifts in nuclear doctrine and communication throughout history, where, year after year, all caution and fear toward the power of the atom seems to have vanished. Has man truly become death, the destroyer of worlds, or has language been reduced to an empty bark? An accessible book that doesn't overlook the ironic aspects of the story, useful for orienting oneself and understanding whether the taboo of mutually assured destruction has truly been broken.
