James Baba, Uganda's Interior Minister, will be in Trento starting Monday for a series of meetings with local institutions, including the Province, and, together with Romano Prodi, with students from Trento. Arcigay is appealing to local institutions not to officially welcome the representative of a state that tramples on human rights, where the press is not free, and which is debating the death penalty for homosexuals.
Arcigay is promoting the approval of a motion in Italian municipalities calling on the Italian Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take all possible steps to halt the distressing Ugandan anti-gay bill. We would like Trentino institutions to also consider expressing their opinion on these issues.
Homophobia is a serious social scourge that institutions must combat by all means: we cannot be welcoming to countries that intend to promote the culture of death.
Flavio Romani, president of Arcigay
