Arcigay: Carabinieri's homophobic manual correction is welcome.

We appreciate the Carabinieri's prompt clarification, admitting that the reference to homosexuality as a degeneracy in an exam manual was a "regrettable misunderstanding" and a "material error." The Carabinieri also ordered the publication to be corrected immediately.

“"We're pleasantly surprised," explains Arcigay President Paolo Patanè, "by the prompt response and the respect for gays and lesbians that emerges from the words of the Carabinieri's General Commander, Leonardo Gallitelli, regarding the Carabinieri's work to protect citizens from all forms of discrimination and violence, which is also reflected in education and training programs for their personnel.".

“"The hope," Patanè continues, "is for these best practices to be intensified, especially at the local level, through direct contact with LGBT associations, and through investments that involve not only the armed forces but also the public administration as a whole, from registry offices to the healthcare system as a whole.".

“A civilized and modern country,” Patanè concludes, “is a country that doesn’t even mistakenly associate homosexuals with degeneration.”.
