HOMOPHOBIC ATTACK ON THE PRESIDENT OF ARCIGAY RAVENNA, PIAZZONI: "A SERIOUS INCIDENT, OUR VISIBILITY IS BECOMING A TARGET"“
Bologna, July 28, 2020 – “I express the solidarity and embrace of all of Arcigay to our Ciro Di Maio, president of Arcigay Ravenna, who was the target of a homophobic attack by unknown individuals who overnight defaced the door of the agency he owns with the word “faggot”,” declared Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay. "The story that Ciro himself posted a short while ago on his Facebook profile," Piazzoni continues, "expresses all the pride of a visible gay person who has chosen to be on the front lines, and for this we are grateful. But it hurts, it makes us angry, it disheartens us. Because being a visible LGBTI person in this country comes with costs, in terms of opportunities, discrimination, even insults and violence. It cannot and must not be this way. We repeat loudly: we need an effective law against homotransphobia, and we need it quickly, without cuts or compromises. We need it because that law will only be a barrier, but a barrier, at this time when the wave of hatred is unstoppable and seems almost to be growing, is essential," Piazzoni concludes.
