Bologna, 26 January 2017 – “The words of Giovanni Canzio, President of the Supreme Court of Cassation, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Judicial Year highlight how the issue of the rights of same-sex couples has not been exhausted with the approval of the law on civil unions”: theGabriele Piazzoni, national secretary of Arcigay, explains: "The issue of adoptions for children of same-sex families, removed from that law, is still open and cannot be ignored, along with a thorough reform of the adoption law that eliminates the absurd ban on same-sex couples from accessing this institution, an exclusion based on pure prejudice. Politics must provide answers regarding adoptions for same-sex couples as soon as possible, as was promised when the law on civil unions was approved. It is time for the legislature to assume its responsibilities and provide us with laws worthy of a modern, inclusive, and progressive country, where every child and parent is protected by the state and there are no first- and second-class children or parents," Piazzoni concludes.
