Lampedusa, Arcigay a sostegno dell’appello di Arci: “Risvegliamoci da questo incubo”

LAMPEDUSA, ARCIGAY SUPPORTS ARCI'S APPEAL: "LET'S AWAKEN FROM THIS NIGHTMARE!"“

Bologna, October 3, 2013 – “The massacre of migrants in the waters of Lampedusa, which we are all witnessing today, is a very serious event that forces us to once again confront the total inadequacy of our country's reception policies,” said Flavio Romani, president of Arcigay, commenting on the tragic shipwreck that occurred this morning just a few miles off the Italian coast. "We wholeheartedly support the appeal recently issued by Arci," Romani continued, "and we ask that a national day of mourning be proclaimed to honor the many victims of this latest attempt to escape poverty and the hopelessness of a future. Furthermore, we reiterate Arci's call for a rethinking of our country's reception policies, a long-awaited haven for those forced to flee places where war and oppression rage. The criminalization of migrant populations is an unbearable disgrace, a nightmare from which Italy must awaken as soon as possible. Adding to the rage," the Arcigay president added, "are the inappropriate and racist comments of Northern League parliamentarians, reminding us of the burden of ignorance and incivility from which this country simply cannot shed.".
