Bologna, July 10, 2015 – Another stop for the Pride Wave, the major national mobilization for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) rights, which began on June 6th and has already swept through 13 major cities, bringing hundreds of thousands of people into the streets. Tomorrow, Naples will take up the baton: the Mediterranean Pride of Naples event is scheduled for 5:30 pm in Piazza Dante, from where the procession will depart for Via Partenope. "There are at least two excellent reasons to take to the streets tomorrow in Naples," says Flavio Romani, president of Arcigay. "First of all, Mediterranean Pride shines a spotlight on schools and education, crucial issues not only because of the very recent approval of a reform that is so worrying students and teachers, but also because of the recurring attacks and dangerous setbacks that the school system is the target of. Just think of what's happening in Venice these past weeks, with a despotic mayor who censors children's fairy tales: an unprecedented act in our republican history, which fills us with shame in front of all of Europe and is provoking the indignation of a large segment of cultural workers from around the world. Education about diversity is under attack, and it's right that those who care about our schools take to the streets in Naples tomorrow. And by marching through the streets of Naples' city center, we will also sound yet another wake-up call to Parliament, which still hasn't managed to pass a law recognizing same-sex unions. A law born old and which in the great Western democracies even conservative forces would define as backward. In Italy, however, it continues to be a mirage. For our part,“ Romani continues, ”we are not giving up. Tomorrow we will once again bring our pride to the streets and, with heads held high, we will show everyone the beauty of our lives, our relationships, our families. Naples tomorrow will be the capital of pride,” he concludes, “our wave is impossible to stop.”.
