Pride Wave, five parades today: Florence, Latina, San Benedetto del Tronto, Taranto, and Verona. Piazzoni (Arcigay): "Pride parades are a thorn in the government's side."“

Bologna, July 8, 2023 Five cities are being traversed today by the Pride Wave, the large-scale demonstration in support of LGBTQ+ rights. Today is Pride Day in Florence (meeting at 4:30 pm at the Giardino delle Scuderie Reali in Porta Romana), Latina (3:30 pm at the Carlo Romagnoli parking lot), San Benedetto del Tronto (4:30 pm in Piazza Bambini del Mondo), Taranto (5 pm in Piazza Dante), and Verona (4 pm in Piazza Bra).

“"Five more marches, five cities mobilized, thousands of people in the streets to give substance to the demand for rights," says Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay. "This year, Pride events are extraordinary in size and numbers; they represent the only strong and united opponent to the government and its discriminatory policies. There's nervousness within Giorgia Meloni's inner circle when it comes to Pride, as demonstrated by the grotesque story of the Latina Pride sponsorship row. Because even among the elected representatives of the Brothers of Italy party, dissent is spreading over the positions of the prime minister and her ministers. That dissent, now stifled by the leader, is the crack that we will transform into a breach," he concludes.
