This morning, in the presence of several Italian LGBT organizations, including Arcigay, a collaboration protocol in the fight against all forms of discrimination was signed between UNAR, the National Anti-Discrimination Office of the Ministry of Equal Opportunities, and OSCAD, the Observatory on Security against Discriminatory Acts within the Department of Public Security, Central Directorate of Criminal Police. .
The open attitude of the police and Carabinieri toward combating and preventing discrimination against gays, lesbians, and transgender people represents a completely new development, unthinkable until a few years ago. Police Chief Antonio Manganelli's emphasis on the need to revitalize prevention and repression illustrates the strategic importance of the synergy between the two agencies.
Antonio Manganelli, whom the association thanks for his commitment to fighting discrimination, also emphasized during the meeting the need for specific legislation that provides tools to combat all forms of discrimination.
From this perspective, we remind the Legislature that in Italy there are no legislative protections against discrimination against gays, lesbians, and trans people, and that Arcigay has been advocating for years to extend the Mancino law to homophobia and transphobia.
