Bologna, May 10, 2025 Arcigay wholeheartedly supports the referendum campaign promoted by the CGIL and reiterates the call to vote 5 YES to the five referendum questions on work and citizenship, fundamental tools for combating precariousness, exploitation, and socioeconomic inequalities.
“"The referendums represent a battle of civilization," says Gabriele Piazzoni, Secretary General of Arcigay. "The questions on work aim to restore dignity, protection, and bargaining power to those who are victims of a system that normalizes poor work and precariousness. For LGBTQIA+ people, often more exposed to discrimination, covert dismissals, and economic marginalization, this is a crucial challenge. The protection of labor rights is a cornerstone of real equality: we cannot accept that gender identity, sexual orientation, or social conditions become factors of exclusion. Work is not only a constitutional right, but a central space for self-determination, dignity, and personal freedom.".
“"The citizenship referendum, promoted by a vast network of civil society groups, aims to amend the current law to ensure faster access to Italian citizenship for people born and raised in our country. The denial of Italian citizenship to those who grew up here represents serious discrimination," Piazzoni continues, "which limits opportunities and condemns them to marginalization in terms of rights and social recognition. Many LGBTQIA+ people of foreign origin live and study in Italy, facing double discrimination. Collective action is essential to overcome this injustice.".
“"At a time of risk of abstentionism and fragmentation," Piazzoni concludes, "it is essential for social organizations and trade unions to join forces. These referendums are an opportunity to reaffirm that decent work and social justice are universal rights." Gabriele Piazzoni will participate in the public meeting organized by the Committee for Referendums on Labor on Sunday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m., at the Cinema Teatro Duomo in Rovigo. He will be joined by Maurizio Landini, General Secretary of the CGIL, and Monica Maria Bassan of ACLI Rovigo.
