[:it] ARCIGAY: "THAT LAW GAVE US A BETTER COUNTRY"“
Bologna, May 11, 2018 – "Two years after the passage of the civil union law, over 14,000 people have been able to access the institution, 6,073 couples (as of December 31, 2017) have celebrated their unions in Italian municipalities, and approximately a thousand unions celebrated abroad have been registered. By the end of this year, it is highly likely that we will reach the milestone of 10,000 civil unions registered nationwide," stated Gabriele Piazzoni, national secretary of Arcigay. He continues: "These data not only confirm the need for that law and the great revolution it is bringing about in public opinion, but they also make it even clearer how our country has left so many families without any protection, forcing a significant portion of the population into invisibility for decades. The civil unions law has given us a better country and was the first step on the road to full equality. Strengthened by this clear demand for rights and public recognition of LGBTI people, we will pursue this path with even greater vigor, and we will not be satisfied until every last inequality has been abolished, from marriage to parental rights to the fight against all discrimination," he concludes.
