[:it]Free training for reception centers in the province of Rieti thanks to the 8x1000 donation from the Waldensian Church.
Thanks to the 8X1000 funds of the Waldensian Church, Arcigay Rieti organizes a series of free training meetings, managed by expert psychologists and psychotherapists, on LGBT+ issues for reception center operators.
The cycle, entitled “The Double Vulnerability of LGBT+ Migrant Identities” was born from a precious and very important project that has just concluded: the “"LGBT+ Migrant Help Desk"”.
It quickly became clear that specific support was needed for LGBT+ migrants, who often flee countries where their sexual orientation and/or gender identity are crimes punishable by torture, imprisonment, and often death.
The presence of a is therefore necessary support reality made up of operators, both male and female That know these topics very well and know how to best support and direct requests for help. With this project, in addition to building and strengthening a welcoming and supportive process (psychological, legal, and social-informative), Arcigay Rieti aims to best reduce the homo-lesbian-transphobic harm experienced by LGBT+ migrants.
It's also crucial to understand that support cannot be limited to the moment of their arrival. It can happen that even within communities already resident in Italy, coming from the same geographical area as the person seeking support, stigma and persecution based on sexual orientation and gender identity are still very strong, creating a concrete risk and effectively preventing migrants from resuming their lives peacefully and to the fullest extent of their abilities.
Those who work closely with migrants must be thoroughly informed about issues that are still too often considered secondary when it comes to requests for support and asylum.
