Transfeminist Women's Network

The Transfeminist Women's Network It is an open and plural space for discussion and political development, sharing and socialization, which includes lesbian, bisexual, trans*, asexual, heterosexual, queer, intersex, non-binary and non-conforming activists of Arcigay.

The Transfeminist Women's Network promotes the visibility and self-determination of LGBTQIA+ women, their individual and collective voice through practices of daily existence and resistance, and the construction of meaningful political relationships among women and for women in constant communication with all other subjectivities.

She is the bearer of a feminist/transfeminist perspective that questions the dominant cis-hetero-patriarchal, male chauvinist/macho culture, hetero-normativity and gender binarism, adopting a perspective trans-gender which recognizes, includes and acts on all subjectivities/identities.

It makes the fight against patriarchy, sexism, misogyny, and homo-bi-lesbian-transnegativity its permanent center of gravity and uses an intersectional gaze and perspective, starting from the recognition of the multiple dimensions of discrimination.

It rejects all forms in which fascism manifests and perpetuates itself.

It fights racism, ableism, ageism, and classism, firmly holding together the fight for the recognition and protection of civil rights and the fight for the recognition and protection of social rights.

It is a safe space where inclusion is achieved, where acceptance and mutual listening are practiced. It is a point of reference and a shared home, a place of exchange and cross-fertilization where political relations are rooted in the practice of sisterhood, which stems from mutual care and the sharing of political experiences.

It is a place of training and self-training that promotes the collectivization/socialization of knowledge and with this objective, it builds empowerment paths, organizes information/dissemination meetings on specific topics, such as the sexual and reproductive health of cis and trans* women, consent education, the right to contraception and voluntary termination of pregnancy, gender-based violence against LBTQIA+ women and women with disabilities.à.

It is a social innovation laboratory that aims to create a bold, visible and united force to support formal and substantive equality, with the awareness that the battles and promotion for full self-determination must also have a careful and supportive eye on international struggles.

It is a national community that arises from the bottom up, as it is an expression of the Arcigay territorial committees with which it has a strong bond and constant dialogue, through the implementation of projects, networking meetings, and events.

The Transfeminist Women's Network supports women's activism by recovering the historical memory of women's movements. It aims to strengthen a sense of pride and belonging to the community, creating opportunities to delve deeper into the history of feminism and the lesbian movement, starting with the rediscovery of the stories of lesbian, trans*, and bisexual activists, often silenced or considered "“minors”. She is the bearer of a “horizontal” feminism which, in understanding the horizon of gender equality and equal opportunities, goes beyond it, to move towards the
creation and re-signification of new spaces for participation and representation that are not limited to adherence to the principle, but bring about a transformation of reality, definitively calling into question relationships of power and subordination.

The Transfeminist Women's Network is committed to the ongoing, daily construction of alternative narratives to the toxic, stereotypical, and stigmatizing narratives of LGBTQIA+ women, migrants, and women with disabilities. These narratives portray them either as perpetrators of the violence they suffer or as victims, vulnerable subjects subjected to mechanisms of control. It speaks of liberation and reappropriation of bodies and is committed to ongoing awareness-raising efforts on the use of gender-sensitive and inclusive language. This language represents all subjectivities/identities, without erasing or invisibilizing them. Finally, it invests in networking, promoting opportunities and spaces for discussion with other associations of the LGBTQIA+* movement, women's movements, and feminist and transfeminist collectives, to build a shared political horizon and unified action.

PRESS RELEASE – ARCIGAY NATIONAL TRANSFEMINIST WOMEN'S NETWORK
Today, February 28, 2026, a national mobilization will take place in Rome.

Today the national mobilization reaches Rome: the procession will depart at 2 pm from Piazza della Repubblica.

The mobilization, promoted by anti-violence centers along with feminist and transfeminist groups, continues to grow by the hour. More and more civil society groups are uniting to resolutely affirm the full self-determination of bodies, their inviolability, and the freedom of choice for every person.

Thirty years after the passage of Law 66/96 on sexual violence, the streets are once again reaffirming that the inviolability of bodies, inalienable human rights, and the culture of consent are non-negotiable. They are, under Italian and international law, as required by the Istanbul Convention ratified by Italy.

“"Without consent, it's rape" is neither a slogan nor a technical term: it means recognizing people's self-determination, the freedom to love and be loved, and full respect for bodies and identities. It is a battle for civilization and democracy that concerns everyone. Recent international scandals demonstrate how urgent it is to decisively combat rape culture, unambiguously and without retreat.

Buses are expected to arrive in Rome from all over Italy, a sign of a civil society that is forcefully responding to the call of anti-violence centers and movements. The National Arcigay Transfeminist Women's Network invites everyone to participate in today's march., Saturday, February 28: Meet in Piazza della Repubblica at 1 p.m., departing at 2 p.m.

Lesbophobia is the hatred and aversion towards lesbians (homosexual women).

It is the specific violence that adds contempt towards homosexual people (homophobia) to discrimination against women because they are women (sexism/misogyny).

We fight against hatred, we demand equal rights and equal protections. With anger and with love.

Lesbian Flag: Created by Tmmoney in 2019. Starting from the top, the colors represent gender nonconformity, community, diverse relationships with one's being a woman, serenity, and femininity.

“"Mothers Outlawed" Lesbian and Transgender Demonstration in Piazza dell'Esquilino 'For Full Maternity Recognition'”

“"Mothers Outlawed" Lesbian and Transgender Demonstration in Piazza dell'Esquilino (Rome) 'for full recognition of maternity rights'”

“"Lesbians from across Europe will take to the streets of Rome on Saturday, April 27, in Piazza dell'Esquilino to support lesbian mothers and trans* people under attack by the policies of Giorgia Meloni and her far-right majority," Arcigay announced in a statement. Last March, the Court of Padua—it is recalled—ruled in favor of lesbian mothers, rejecting the Italian Prosecutor's Office's request to remove the non-biological mother from the birth certificates of 38 children. A few days later, the Ministry of the Interior appealed the Padua Court's favorable decision, setting a very dangerous precedent. This legal action, which comes after a year of political attacks, threats, and ministerial circulars, is, in fact, just another attempt by Prime Minister Meloni and her majority to make the lives of lesbian mothers, trans* people, and rainbow families the battleground of the upcoming European elections. On the occasion of the International Day of Lesbian Visibility, Italian and European lesbian movements will make their struggle and resistance against the Italian government visible by protesting the creation of first-class mothers (biological and heterosexual) and second-class mothers (lesbian, intentional, adoptive, foster, single) and demanding full recognition of motherhood. The initiative is jointly organized by Alfi, Arcigay Roma, Differenza Lesbica, Arcigay Rete Donne Transfemminista, Arcigay Modena "Matthew Shepard", rainbow families, Lesbians Bologna, the Luki Massa Association, the Liberas Association and the Italian Lesbian List, and the Lesbian Community of Europe and Central Asia (EL*C). A press conference will be held on Friday, April 26, at the Arci Nazionale headquarters at Via dei Monti di Pietralata 16, to present the event "Mothers Outside the Law. Lesbians United for the Full Recognition of Motherhood."”

“Patriarchy: a possible male (re)action”.

Saturday, March 9, 2024, 5:00 PM
Music for Peace, via Balleydier 60 (Genoa)

Arcigay Genova opens a space for reflection on the role of the male figure in today's society entitled “Patriarchy: a possible male (re)action”.
This public event will be the first in a series of events aimed at reflecting on the role that society requires and imposes on people who socialize as men. Taking example from transfeminist practices, who over time have built a long journey of elaboration and deconstruction of the female role, we want to undertake a similar journey for men as well.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be attended by:
Matteo Botto, PhD student in sociology at the University of Genoa.
Michela Calabrò, Arcigay's national representative for gender policies and coordinator of Arcigay's Transfeminist Women's Network.
Francesco Ferreri, Cultural anthropologist specializing in gender, sexuality, and the body, and a sex consultant. Content creator known as "Antropoché?" Collaborates with and leads Mica Macho's consciousness-raising groups.
The debate will be moderated by Daniela Pittaluga, psychologist and psychotherapist.

Intersectionality of Discrimination and LGBTQIA+ People
November 4, 2023 | Municipality of Impruneta

On Saturday 4 November from 5pm at the Loggiato del Pellegrino in Piazza Buondelmonti in Impruneta, the public meeting entitled “Intersectionality of Discrimination and LGBTIQA+ People“, promoted by the Municipality of Impruneta as a component body of the Re.A.Dy, the National Network of Public Administrations Against Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

With the meeting “Intersectionality of Discrimination and LGBTIQA+ People”The aim is to explore the theme of discrimination, based on the overlapping of different social identities in people and the concurrence of multiple factors (sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity or origin, disability) linked to different types of oppression such as racism, sexism, homophobia, lesbophobia, transphobia, and ableism. People's identities are not made up of isolated categories, but are inevitably interconnected: hence the term intersectionality. They will participate in the event Michela Calabrò, Arcigay's Gender Policy Delegate, Natascia Maesi, president of Arcigay

Self-awareness workshops

THE PERSONAL IS POLITICAL

Self-awareness workshops promoted by Arcigay Rete Donne Transfemminista.
Feminist consciousness-raising is a political practice born within Italian feminist collectives in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Together with the comrades of the Siena branch of NUDM, we want to revisit it.

We will start with ourselves to explore the central themes of our transfeminist work and activism, in the knowledge that the personal is political!

November 25, 2022
Rights are not attacked, they are defended

November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Gender Violence. Violence and discrimination can be committed in many ways, such as denying rights or, worse, attacking the few laws that protect women.

Hands off our bodies!

In 1978, abortion became a right in Italy, but today, 41 years after the abrogative referendum that saw thousands of people take to the streets to defend it, can we still say that the possibility of resorting to voluntary termination of pregnancy is guaranteed in Italy?

The ever-increasing percentage of conscientious objectors in public hospitals and the lack of secular and public health clinics that provide accurate information are obstacles to people's self-determination. In many countries around the world, abortion is still illegal, and women find themselves forced to abort abroad or, worse still, resort to clandestine abortions, risking their lives.

WE WANT A STRUCTURAL AND FINANCIAL REFORM OF HEALTH CARE CENTER CENTERS, TO MAKE THEM TRULY ACCESSIBLE, SECULAR, AND WITH A PRESENCE NOT ONLY IN URBAN CENTERS BUT ESPECIALLY IN THE SUBURBS.

NO is NO

Italy is one of eight European Union countries that does not offer a sexuality education program in schools at any level. School is one of the first places where personal expression confronts prevailing social models, and sexuality and affectivity are an integral part of human beings and their identity.

We want schools at all levels to provide education in affectivity, relationships, and a sexuality that emphasizes respect for oneself and others. Positive and informed sexual education can help young people prevent STIs/HIV and access contraception, and support them in recognizing and combating gender-based violence, bullying, cyberbullying, and revenge porn.

Consent education is essential to eradicate gender stereotypes and patriarchal culture and to foster consent within intimate relationships.

NO means NO; it should be clear, but it isn't at all. This is why it's important to define the concept of "sexual consent": it's necessary to make the limit even clearer, starting in school. Anything that isn't a clear YES is violence. This is why it's essential to bring this topic into the public debate and teach it, starting in schools.

Attacking rights is violence

Vulvodynia, pudendal neuropathy, fibromyalgia, endometriosis, and chronic pelvic pain are socially invisible conditions, but not to those who experience them on a daily basis. And they aren't recognized by the National Health System (only endometriosis is partially recognized).

The lack of recognition by the NHS, the diagnostic delay and the lack of qualified healthcare personnel are proof of a healthcare system that is negligent towards the bodies of women and AFAB people (Assigned Female at Birth, assigned female at birth), unable to provide care and protection to people suffering from these conditions.

We want prevention, early diagnosis, and improved quality of care. We want to be trusted and supported by healthcare professionals.

We want it to be recognized as a disabling disease and financial support for those affected.

Section under update

STOP THE VIOLENCE. USE THE RIGHT WORDS.

Arcigay Transfeminist Women's Network for the 25 November 2020
(Day International Conference on the Elimination of Violence against Women).

From January to November, there were 91 femicides in Italy. Every time a woman is killed because she is a woman, we witness a series of toxic narratives reported by the press. For this reason, this year, on the occasion of 25 November, Day For the International Campaign to Eliminate Violence against Women, we wanted to collect some real headlines that appeared in national newspapers and rewrite them. Words can kill twice, and if we want to stop violence, we need to learn to describe it with different words.

Lesbian Visibility Day, April 26, 2020

Arcigay Transfeminist Women's Network And Arcigay National Trans Network They created the "Visibility is..." campaign, in which lesbian women and transgender women give voice to what they see as a necessary political act. Visibility for all of them means redemption from blackmail, but also self-love, something that liberates them from the gaze of others. It's a way to shout to the world that "lesbian" is a word to be proud of, a word to be spoken out loud.
“Visibility is the instrument of a revolution that re-signifies and socializes lesbian subjectivity, transforming lesbian women into r-existing existences, capable of creating new imaginations and new narratives that speak of freedom and liberation. For this and so much more, days like this exist, and I hope we always live with pride. Happy April 26th to all of us.”  Natasha Maesi, responsible for gender policies in the national secretariat of Arcigay.

It was created with the aim of raising public awareness of the violence experienced by lesbian, bisexual, disabled, and transgender women. The project was structured in several phases over a six-month period, aimed at fostering processes of individual and community empowerment. It directly involved lesbian, bisexual, disabled, and transgender women, who actively participated in co-developing the campaign through online discussions and focus groups.
