Arcigay Nazionale and the Arcigay Il Cassero club express their condolences to the family in their grief over the death of Renzo Imbeni.

Renzo Imbeni played an important role in the history of the homosexual movement in Bologna and nationwide. secretary of the Bologna Federation of the PCI In 1982, he endorsed the concession of the historic Cassero di Porta Saragozza building to the Bologna homosexual community.

In 1990, from Mayor of Bologna, inaugurated, in the Gardens of Villa Cassarini, the first Italian monument to homosexual victims of Nazism.

As a member of the European Parliament and Vice-President of the European Parliament he was close to the battles for civil rights of the Italian and European gay and lesbian movement.

He leaves us with the memory of a good and just man, sincerely committed to the promotion of civil liberties and social inclusion.
