The twelfth edition of Mr. Gay Italy took place on Sunday in Milan. The jury was chaired by Franco Grillini, honorary president of Arcigay, along with Aurelio Mancuso, current national president of Arcigay, the two Zelig actresses, Katia and Valeria, and Morten Ruda, patron of Mr. Gay Europe.
Antony Cortinovis, 23, from Bergamo, took home the Mister Gay Italia 2008 sash. The final was held in Milan, at the Borgo del Tempo Perso.
Our congratulations to Antony, who participated in this fun competition, which is both a moment of celebration and an opportunity to discuss homosexuality through the media, which often focuses only on folklore. Therefore, the election of Mr. Gay Italy can also help us convey the values of human dignity, even when gay, and visibility, which implicitly constitutes a form of social commitment, as it challenges the prejudice, hostility, and discrimination that target people of different sexual orientations, perpetrated not only by homophobes but, unfortunately, also by institutions.
The Arcigay Promotion Committee of Bergamo hopes that the award given to a Bergamo native will be a good omen for the association's development in such a challenging city as Bergamo.
Sponsors of the evening were Aussiebum, Travelgay.it, Pier Pour Hom.
