Arcigay Pavia calls for their immediate resignations.
Giuseppe Polizzi, President of Arcigay Pavia, stated: "Citizens entrusted with public functions have a duty to fulfill them with discipline and honor. This is what the Constitution of the Italian Republic states, and with their homophobic act, the two councilors have demonstrated that they are no longer worthy of such an important role. This act seems even more serious considering that it comes from a councilor responsible for education, who is called upon to speak to students in schools where homobuly still exists, and it is grotesque that it should be praised by the councilor for culture.".
Luca Contardi, Youth Affairs Director, adds: "Since the beginning of the year, around ten cases of homophobia have already been reported to Arcigay Pavia in the province, and almost all are related to the use of offensive, insulting, and indeed homophobic language. Because of such words, many adolescents experience discomfort and despair about their homosexuality. It's essential that the sane members of the Cava Manara City Council take action based on the statements of the two councilors and call for their resignations.".
Arcigay Pavia thanks the gay and transgender community in Pavia, which, fed up with these homophobic acts, is increasingly reporting such cases with indignation and frequency.
