It was held this Friday, April 19th, at the Margaroli Bookshop
of Verbania, the presentation of the novel “Ichnusa” in the presence of the author Bert d'Arragon.
The evening was an opportunity to reflect on very important issues such as equal opportunities for women, self-acceptance of homosexual people, the issue of disability and relationships, the celibacy of priests.
all made compelling by the novel's style.
Angelica Chiurillo, Arcigay's Culture Director, joined the author, who was present in Verbania in 2010 with his previous book, "La Libellula." The brilliant voice of Carla De Chiari accompanied the presentation with a reading of significant excerpts from the novel. The author explained his choice to address such important themes, which stemmed from his personal history as an archaeologist and director of a construction site in Sardinia (Ichnusa is the ancient Greek name for the island) and from his encounters with the diverse people who inspired the characters, stories, hardships, and injustices we read about in Ichnusa.

He continues: "Not only do we believe it is important to discuss the problems associated with self-acceptance as homosexuals, caused by the prejudices of our society, but we also believe the real and shared feeling of distress and injustice experienced by so many people who, because of their gender, a disability, or their vocation, can be misjudged or excluded. Discrimination today is still the result of a culture of conformity, ideology, and the darkness of reason."”
