Monday, January 27th, is Holocaust Remembrance Day, in memory of all those who lost their lives to Nazi-fascist persecution. Among them are homosexuals, whose stories are the focus of a packed program of events planned by Arcigay throughout Italy.
Arezzo
Arcigay Arezzo "Chimera Arcobaleno" presents the film "Il Rosa Nudo," inspired by the life of Pierre Seel, on Sunday, January 26th at Spazio Seme. The event is scheduled for 7:00 pm for an aperitif and dinner, and at 9:30 pm for a screening of the film, followed by a discussion with director Giovanni Coda. Il Rosa Nudo is a work of experimental cinema inspired by the life of Pierre Seel and his autobiography, written in collaboration with Jean Le Bitoux, one of the most prominent LGBT rights activists in France and Europe. Discussing Seel's traumatic experience will serve to address the Homocausto, or rather, to highlight the horrors perpetrated by the Nazis, even against those classified as homosexual. Il Rosa Nudo focuses primarily on a painful and horrific episode that would shape Seel's emotional life for the rest of his life. He was only 17 years old at the time of his internment. Deported to the Schimerck camp, he will witness the atrocious death of his companion.
Bologna
Nineteen young illustrators and comic artists are committed to telling eleven stories of gay men and lesbians persecuted during Nazi-Fascism. "Rosa cenere" (Ash Rose) is the exhibition produced by the Cassero LGBT Center, curated by Jacopo Camagni, which will open on Monday, January 27th at the Arcigay club in Bologna, in the presence of Lucy, a transgender concentration camp survivor. Among the stories illustrated, some are already well-known, such as those of Heinz Heger and Pierre Seel, whose publications paved the way for early research on deported homosexuals. Others have been discovered in online archives, such as that of Henny Schermann, one of the few women deported partly because she was a lesbian. The narrative of the Holocaust told through the exhibition "Rosa cenere," which will run until January 31, ties together all the initiatives scheduled at the Cassero for Holocaust Remembrance Day, such as the screening of the film "Il rosa nudo" (The Naked Pink) scheduled for January 24 at the Odeon Cinema, or "Paragraph 175," scheduled for Monday the 27th at Palazzo Marescotti (Via Barberia), introduced by a lecture by Marco Reglia, Arcigay representative for the historical memory of discrimination against homosexuals. All these initiatives are part of the event on Monday the 27th in the garden of Villa Cassarini, with a commemoration of the gay, lesbian, and transgender victims of Nazi-Fascism in front of the plaque commemorating them.

The Arcigay QueeRevolution Territorial Committee of Catania will also remember the victims of the Holocaust on Monday, January 27th, with two events: in the morning, the Committee will organize viral remembrance actions to remember the 45 homosexuals from Catania and the surrounding province confined to the Tremiti Islands by Police Chief Molina in 1939, and to urge the City Council to replace the plaque commemorating those tragic events, which was removed under pressure from the Molina family.
