The National Council of Arcigay, during the session of March 26 in Bologna, voted on a political agenda to mobilize the association to apriority commitment to reform the adoption law. “The document states: "The approval of the Civil Unions law was an important victory, a significant step forward in the fight for full equality that we have been waging in our country for decades. This initial result, which we know will not be sufficient, must spur us to resolutely continue on our path. We must strengthen our commitment in all areas of individuals' public and private lives to remove every obstacle to full inclusion regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and to combat all forms of discrimination and social marginalization of LGBTI people. Equally crucial is continuing our efforts for full equal treatment in the public recognition of people's affections and bonds, pursuing the political and social battle for equal marriage. To achieve this goal, it is crucial to start from the very point where we failed when the civil unions law was approved—namely, the removal of stepchild adoption—and relaunch it with even greater force." Therefore, Arcigay delegates indicated as a priority "an effective advocacy effort for a reform of the current adoption legislation, allowing couples and singles to access this public institution, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity." Furthermore, the association's representative body expressed its commitment to "implementing broad-based action to combat all forms of discrimination and social marginalization of LGBTI people.".
