[:it] TOMORROW AT MONTECITORIO THE CONFERENCE THAT WILL DRAW THE BALANCE SHEET
The conference, titled "LGBTI Migrants," is organized by the news portal Gaynews and Arcigay to celebrate 10 years of the international protection law, which has granted hundreds of residence permits to non-EU gay, lesbian, and transgender people. The conference will be held tomorrow, Friday, June 23, at 3:00 PM in the Aldo Moro Hall of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome. Following a welcome address by Giulio Marcon, leader of the SI group in the Chamber of Deputies, and an introduction by Franco Grillini, editor of Gaynews, the conference will feature remarks by Gianpaolo Silvestri, former senator; Gabriele Piazzoni, national secretary of Arcigay; Giorgio Dell'Amico, Arcigay representative for the "Immigration and Asylum" sector; Jonathan Mastellari, of the MigraBo Group of Bologna; and Ilaria Masinara, Amnesty International Italy's head of migration, discrimination, and LGBTI campaigns. We will also hear testimonies from Omar Balep, a Cameroonian immigrant, and other professionals in the sector.
Homosexuality is a crime in 79 countries, and in seven it is punishable by death. This is precisely why, 10 years ago, Franco Grillini and Gianpaolo Silvestri succeeded in passing an amendment that can be described as the "law on the international protection of LGBT people." The article, rejected by the Chamber of Deputies, passed the Senate, and was then definitively approved again by the Deputies. The text is clear and establishes the protection granted in Italy, based on personal circumstances, to those coming from countries that criminalize what is not criminalized in our legal system. The issue of migrants is particularly topical right now and significantly shapes the political agendas of governments and political parties. The meeting therefore aims to initiate a discussion of a positive law and its implementation, together with those who have directly worked with LGBT migrants over the years and with those who have obtained or are seeking international protection. The meeting is open to all: to register, please send your registration to [email protected]. Entry to the Chamber must be made by 2:45 PM on June 23. Jackets are required for men.
