Bologna, May 17, 2020 – “We welcome the words of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and the appeal of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to political forces to converge, after so many years of discussion and failed attempts, on an effective and concrete bill against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,” said Gabriele Piazzoni, Secretary General of Arcigay. He continues: "The government majority must unite behind a civilized measure, and the government itself must support the legislative process for a law against homophobia and transphobia. The bills on this issue submitted to the Chamber of Deputies and awaiting discussion have been signed by representatives of all four majority political forces (M5S, PD, Italia Viva, and Leu). Therefore, there is every opportunity to approve a bill that clearly and unambiguously states that our country rejects violence and does not tolerate any kind of discrimination, protecting the victims of that violence and working to create an Italy where no one should be afraid to freely be themselves.".
