LGBTQIA+ communities have always strengthened in times of crisis, such as the current one, becoming agents of radical and positive change, in support of LGBTQIA+ people around the world. Young LGBTIQ people are at the center of this essential movement of shared renewal. ILGA World is the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association, a global federation of 1,700 organizations from over 160 countries and territories that fight for the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex people in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. ILGA World also includes Arcigay Nazionale, various local committees, and several national LGBTQIA+ associations. Since the 1970s, during ILGA World's global conferences, LGBTIQ leaders and activists from around the world have gathered regularly to share experiences and collectivize best practices, create and strengthen transnational alliances, discuss the future of the international and regional LGBTQIA+ movement, and collectively and equally outline new joint strategies to promote equality and equal rights and guarantees for LGBTQIA+ people worldwide.

On the occasion of the upcoming World Conference 2022, a lesbian transfeminist activist from Arcigay is vying for a top role on the ILGA World Women's Steering Committee. Angelica Polmonari She is a lawyer and activist for LGBTQIA+ rights at Arcigay She is active at the local, national, and international levels, respectively as a representative of the Arcigay Transfeminist Women's Network and the Arcigay Modena "Matthew Shepard" territorial committee. Angelica Polmonari, former European Representative for ILGA Europe, the European branch of ILGA World, on the ILGA World Women's Steering Committee, is currently running for the Committee's presidency. The ILGA World Women's Committee is a body composed of one activist per region and a President who coordinates its internal functioning and advocacy activities. It specifically focuses on women's issues and the concerns of LGBTQIA+ women in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.

“"My name is Angelica Polmonari, I am 29 years old and my preferred gender pronouns are she/her/hers. I am an Italian jurist and a transfeminist, lesbian activist for LGBTQIA+ rights at the local, national and international levels, within the main Italian LGBTQIA+ not-for-profit organization, Arcigay.
I have worked as a human rights expert and lead project manager within national and international institutions and organizations, namely the European Parliament and IBO Italia.
On behalf of Arcigay, member organization of both ILGA World and ILGA Europe, as a transfeminist out lesbian activist, I have been fostering LBTQIA+ women's full participation in public life and decision-making, organizing and leading grassroots mass demonstrations, public conferences, seminars, workshops, focus groups and training sessions. I have been co-leading the first-ever transfeminist LBTQIA+ Women's Group internal to the local association Arcigay Modena “Matthew Shepard” and I am the first woman and the first out lesbian to currently run for President of the Committee, after twenty-two years of male leadership. Simultaneously, I have been driving change as a lead activist of the first-ever national transfeminist network internal to Arcigay, Arcigay Rete Donne Transfemminista.
I am running for the high-level position of President of the Women's Steering Committee I have already been an active part of as the current European Representative, in order to put at the service of the Committee, on one hand, my legal expertise as a jurist specializing in International and European human rights law and, on the other hand, my multi-level first-hand knowledge of both LBTQIA+ women's needs and SOGI issues, as both a lesbian woman and a long-term advocate for LBTQIA+ rights.”
