Vandals at the Gay Center, Arcigay Expresses Solidarity: "The Right's Cultural Soup Feeds Neighborhood Bullies"'
Bologna, February 1, 2024 – “A bunch of young thugs supported by the culture of adult hatred”: this is how Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay, condemned the vandals who the other evening attacked the Rome headquarters of the Gay Center and Arcigay Roma, in Testaccio, in the capital, with homophobic graffiti and damage. "The bottom line," Piazzoni says, "is that these vandals think like some parliamentarians, and even like a representative of the Italian army who is rumored to be a candidate. They're just more concise and far less cunning, given that they're being incited by the more astute adults and don't realize they're being filmed. We wonder how credible the people who support this government will be able to stigmatize these vandals, who, even with paint and on the walls, brilliantly embody the nudges of many members of the majority. For our part, we extend our deepest sympathy and embrace to the volunteers who stubbornly keep the services and activities of that office alive, a true refuge for LGBTQI+ people during this time," Piazzoni concludes.
