More than 20 million people across the EU lack access to free and safe abortion. Some countries have made significant progress: for example, in France, the right to abortion has been enshrined in the Constitution, and in England, anti-abortion activists will not be able to protest or hand out leaflets within 150 meters of clinics to guarantee freedom of choice.
And in Italy? In our country, for the first time in 46 years, the government has failed to submit a report on the implementation of Law 194. Pro-life and anti-abortion movements are dangerously increasing, with a worrying recourse to conscientious objection in public hospitals, so much so that in some regions it is becoming literally impossible to access abortion. The emerging scenario is unacceptable, worrying, and increasingly endangers the safety and well-being of pregnant women seeking an abortion.
