SPORTS: THE FIRST ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP RACE HELD IN LIVORNO. ARLATI (ARCIGAY): "OUR BEST WISHES TO NICO ONORE, A TRANSGENDER ATHLETE MAKING HIS DEBUT IN THIS RACE."“
Bologna, March 21, 2025 – “We stand with Nico Onore, a transgender athlete making his debut today in Livorno in the first regatta of the Italian Mini 6.50 Class Championship. We wish him the best of luck!” said Marco Arlati, Sports Director at Arcigay’s national secretariat. "A significant project begins today," Arlati continues, "that will see Arcigay alongside Nico Onore for all the 2025 regattas. We will follow Nico's sporting journey to combat the transphobic hatred that is affecting the trans* community everywhere. Sport belongs to everyone, without any discrimination based on gender or identity. It is, by definition, a fundamental educational tool for physical and mental well-being, regardless of athletic level or gender identity. In the USA, where the next San Francisco Olympics will be held, the purge of all trans* people from the sports world has begun. This wave of hatred risks spreading to European countries, including Italy. This is why Arcigay Sport has decided to support the competitive journeys of trans* people: the right to sport cannot and must not be denied to anyone," Arlati concludes.
