The recognition comes thirty years after the first Pride in Naples and was born from a proposal by Antinoo Arcigay Napoli
The Naples City Council approved an order of the day which commits the administration to confer honorary citizenship to Franco Grillini, one of the founding fathers of LGBTQ+ rights activism in Italy.
The recognition comes in the year that celebrates the 30th anniversary of the first Naples Pride which took place on June 29, 1996 which was also the first ever in Southern Italy and the third at national level (after those in Rome and Bologna) and which represented a fundamental turning point in the path of the LGBTQ+ movement in Southern Italy, also as a result of “gentle revolution” implemented by Grillini himself.
