PRESS RELEASE
“CASORIA FREEDOM – 2nd edition”
March for rights and against discrimination
May 18, 2026
The Municipality of Casoria, together with Antinoo Arcigay Napoli, Cantiere Giovani, Comunica Sociale, Arci Mediterraneo and Pro Loco for the city of Casoria, promotes “CASORIA FREEDOM – 2nd edition”, the city march dedicated to the values of freedom, respect, and equality.
The initiative will take place Monday, May 18, the day after the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, with the aim of raising awareness among citizens against all forms of discrimination and strengthening the message of social inclusion.
Departure is scheduled at 9:00 am from Piazza Cirillo. The procession will pass through some of the city's main streets before ending back in the same square. The route will include: Piazza Cirillo, Via D'Anna, Via San Rocco, Piazza Benedetto XV, Via Paolo VI, Via Pio XII, Via San Pietro, Piazza Pisa, Via San Mauro, Via Cardinale Maglione, Piazza Benedetto XV, Via San Rocco, Via D'Anna, and back to Piazza Cirillo.
The event will be held with the support of the Italian Red Cross – Naples North Committee and the "Le Aquile" Civil Protection Department – Casoria office, who will provide assistance and security throughout the event. Representatives of the As.SO project will also be present to raise awareness on the issue.
«"Casoria must be a city where every person can feel free to be themselves, without fear of discrimination or exclusion."» – declares the mayor Raffaele Bene. «This march represents not only a symbolic moment, but a concrete commitment from our community to the rights, mutual respect, and dignity of all.
«Institutions have a duty to promote a culture of acceptance and inclusion, especially among the new generations» – adds the deputy mayor and councilor for culture Gaetano Palumbo – «"Because only through dialogue, participation, and sharing can we build a more just, open, and united community.".
These words are joined by Antonello Sannino, President of Antinoo Arcigay Napoli and contact person for the As.SO project: «The images of last year's street party in Casoria are still vivid in our eyes, of the happy Mayor and his students marching proudly for rights through the streets of his city, along with his councilors, the council, and Roberto Fico, who would soon become president of the Campania Region, for the first "Casoria Freedom March." This is the second edition of what is becoming a true pride event, opening the long season of the Campania pride movement, a unique pride because it involves schools, and in this respect too, our metropolitan area is going against the grain. A march of freedom and pride against homotransphobia, with local schools and through the streets of Casoria, a crucial signal that makes the city of Casoria a vanguard in the defense of civil rights. For this, we are grateful to Mayor Raffaele Bene and his deputy mayor Gaetano Palumbo for relaunching this great moment of civility in the aftermath of the International Day Against Homotransphobia.».
The municipal administration invites citizens, associations, schools, and local organizations to participate in the initiative, contributing together to send a strong message of civility, solidarity, and respect for human rights.
