At Alpàa, the 37th fair and market scheduled for July 12th to 22nd in Varallo Sesia, in the Vercelli area, the demands of the LGBT community are making inroads: on Saturday, July 13th at 8 pm, starting from the train station, activists from Arcigay ’Rainbow“ Valsesia-Vercelli, along with many supporters, will parade through the town fair wearing the red t-shirts of the national Arcigay campaign against homophobia ”Some people are Lesbians, Transgender, Gay, Bisexuals: get over it!“
This will be an important moment for an area that tends to be dominated by incorrect ideas about homosexuality and transsexuality, ideas that are magnified by statements from local and national politicians who also act as representatives of local institutions and are unfortunately very well-known.
“"We, on the other hand, believe that all people are worthy of respect and protection as citizens who abide by the law, work, pay taxes, and vote," the organizers explain. "Our demonstration will therefore be respectful of everyone: a joyful parade that will wind its way through Alpàa and attract the attention of the many people present, shouting NO TO HOMOPHOBIA!"”
The demonstration is supported by Arcigay Nazionale and several local LGBT associations; the invitation to join is also extended to individuals, associations, organizations, and political forces who wish to distance themselves from policies that undermine the dignity and basic rights of people of any sexual orientation.
