Arcigay, ICAR, the Italian conference on AIDS and retroviruses, kicks off

Arcigay welcomes the opening of ICAR, the Italian conference on AIDS and retroviruses, promoted by SIMIT, which begins today in Naples. With its three days of debate and discussion on the latest advances in virology, immunology, treatment, and socio-epidemiology regarding HIV infection, ICAR represents the most important meeting place for the scientific community and for those segments of Italian civil society that are currently the main actors involved in these issues.

“"ICAR represents a crucial opportunity to update and develop strategies to combat HIV infection and improve the quality of life for people with HIV," explains Rebecca Zini, national health director for Arcigay. "As an association, we are convinced of the importance of participating in the event, and we hope that the scientific debate taking place these days will receive adequate attention and support from our country's institutions throughout the year. This infection remains an infection that requires a comprehensive commitment, ranging from supporting scientific research to developing appropriate communication and information programs for the public, and even addressing important social issues such as combating discrimination against people with HIV.".

“"The presence of such an event in the city of Naples," comments Fabrizio Sorbara, president of the Arcigay Napoli committee, "is an important opportunity to reflect on the many steps still needed to be taken in our region to combat HIV infection. Among these, we particularly emphasize the importance of implementing effective, institutionally supported strategies that can reduce the barriers that still exist in accessing testing and early diagnosis.".
