Bologna, February 6, 2016 "This about-face is an inexplicable leeway that Beppe Grillo is offering Alfano," Gabriele Piazzoni, national secretary of Arcigay, commented on the Five Star Movement leader's post, which opened the vote on civil unions to freedom of conscience. "We call on the Five Star Movement senators," Piazzoni continued, "to regain the unity needed for this Parliament to approve a first, very moderate law recognizing gay and lesbian families. Any hesitation weakens the text and blows the sails of those, like Minister Alfano, who are aiming to wreck this legislative initiative. We're talking about rights," Piazzoni concluded, "and if there's anything ethically relevant in this discussion, it's the inequality that has always affected a segment of the population, including children. Consciences should be addressed on this, not left to slumber and give way to other reasoning or calculations.".
