Gay Pride Month begins

The Milanese Gay Pride celebrations kicked off last night at the Nuova Idea in Milan, hosted by Paola and Chiara: Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Pride month has broken ground.

Arcigay clubs are preparing for a series of demonstrations: next Saturday's anti-racism day in Verona, with the "Citizenship Must Be Written" demonstration; Pride 2001 on June 23 in Milan; the demonstration in Catania on June 28, World Gay and Lesbian Pride Day; Europride in Vienna on June 30; and then the demonstration in Rome on July 7.

Meanwhile, today, MPs Franco Grillini and Titti De Simone announced the imminent introduction of several bills: from recognizing the rights of same-sex couples to anti-discrimination bills to a request to amend Article 3 of the Constitution, the gay and lesbian movement's flagship bills have been deployed.

“"A rainbow thread, stronger today, now ties the streets to the institutions," declared Arcigay National President Sergio Lo Giudice. "We will invade Italy's squares with the river of people everyone remembers from last year, and in the meantime we will ensure that this Parliament does not fail to meet the legitimate expectations of recognizing our rights.

To the center-right majority preparing to govern the country, we say that we are very interested in seeing whether the authentically liberal soul of the moderate front will be able to approach our proposals with a secular and libertarian spirit. To the racist and xenophobic forces plaguing the country and threatening the quality of our democracy, we say that we will be in the streets whenever, as in Verona, citizens' rights are threatened. Our fight against every neo-racist and neo-fascist plan will be fierce.”
