‘The motion in support of the proposed law on the PACS, the Civil Solidarity Pact.
This law, formulated by the Hon. Franco Grillini (DS) and signed at the national level by Democrats of the Left, Italian Communists, Communist Refoundation Party, Federation of the Greens, and Italian Radicals, aims to include in our legal system a series of provisions to legally protect all cohabiting couples who, by choice or because they cannot, are not married.
‘'the approval of this law would allow these couples to be protected in various situations, from hospital and prison care, to pension reversion, to taking over a rental agreement. This bill makes no distinction between heterosexual and homosexual couples, and equally recognizes the human and social value of family units. While they differ from the traditional family, they embody all those characteristics of love and mutual moral and material support that every civilized society should strive to safeguard and foster.
In the vast majority of European countries Rules of this kind have been in force for years, but Italy remains the last major country in the European Union not to have equipped itself with an instrument like this, which values the freedom and dignity of every human being, regardless of sexual orientation.
The Municipality of Ferrara, confirming the open-mindedness and drive towards Europe that characterizes this majority, he expressed himself in favor of the PACS, with 17 votes in favor (DS, SDI, Italian Communists, Communist Ref., Fed. of the Greens, Reformists) and 11 against (AN, FI and Margherita).
Arcigay/Arcilesbica Circomassimo welcomes with satisfaction and appreciation the position taken by the City Council and thanks all those councilors who have demonstrated profound democratic and civic sensitivity in giving assent to the motion presented by the Green Party group leader Francesca Cigala Fulgosi.
