Art and Creativity for HIV/AIDS

Are you a budding young artist, aspiring filmmaker, or creative writer interested in the issue of AIDS in Africa? Art as an innovative vehicle to raise awareness among young people about the spread of HIV/AIDS among their peers in sub-Saharan Africa and the potential impact of this crisis on the lives of young Europeans.

This is the objective of the first initiative of the three-year campaign supported by the EU, promoted by Cesvi and some of its partners in the European network Alliance2015.

From September 15th to October 23rd 2006 Registration is now open for the art competition aimed at young people between the ages of 15 and 24 from Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic, involved in the project, with a passion for music, dance, art, and design. They will be able to submit their works on the theme of education, prevention, and access to care for young people regarding HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Award categories are as follows:
– Performance: music and dance
– Art & design: visual design, cartoon, web design or product design
– Spoken word: poems and short stories (in English)
– Photography
– Video & Film

The five national finalists (one for each artistic category), chosen by a jury of industry experts, will be able to exhibit their works at the event One World Film Festival (Prague, March 8, 2007), where the European winner for each category will be chosen. Each winner will receive a trip to South Africa with an international delegation of officials and journalists.

The Virus Free Generation campaign will develop over the next three years through the implementation of numerous cultural initiatives to enhance connections between the global South and North, engaging young people in awareness-raising activities and lobbying governments and international organizations for the need for adequate prevention, treatment, and access to medical care for young people.
