2015. Europride in Milan for the EXPO?

2015 will be a crucial year for Milan. The Expo? No, the World Fair risks becoming a sideshow. The major event the Pisapia administration wants to oversee is the Euro Pride. "Organizing it in Milan would be an excellent idea," blurted out Pierfrancesco Majorino, the city's councilor for social policies. And the increasingly gay-friendly atmosphere under the Madonnina was evident on Saturday afternoon, when many representatives of the new center-left majority participated in the city's Gay Pride parade. The new mayor wasn't there (he bailed after announcing the event), but Majorino took his place: "It's not up to the city administration to organize the pride parade. Hosting it in 2015, the year of the Expo, would be an excellent opportunity. 2015 will be a year of Milan's opening to the world and should feature a wealth of events. I'd be surprised if something didn't happen regarding the pride parade." The hosting proposal, in fact, came from Arcigay national president Paolo Patanè, who was in the square in Milan where, according to the organizers, around 60,000 people attended. "We'll try to launch the idea," Patanè said. "Making the Expo a showcase for Italy, which is also screaming for Europe, is a winning idea." The news from New York, the sixth US state to approve same-sex marriage, received a wide response. The Arcigay president called it a "narcosis of our politics while everything else is happening around the world.".
