Differently Equal – The First Stories

Vanda, Valeria, Marco and Mariella: they are the first testimonials of the national awareness campaign on the theme of diversity and the serenity of living visibly being gay or lesbian today in Italy entitled "“STORIES – tales of ordinary diversity”. The national campaign is born from a fortunate encounter Of Arcigay And DRAFTFCB  and will be distributed on general virtual and paper media and virally on social networks, blogs and aggregators starting from Monday 9 January 2011.

The first testimonies collected tell of a wide range of experiences centred on the serenity in experiencing one's visibility and coming out At work, at school, with friends, with family, and with all gay and lesbian people (and their parents). The stories aim to encourage and promote listening and to reveal a daily life that is too often invisible to the general public.

The heart and driving force of the campaign will be the website diversauguali.org which will be enriched, over time, with other stories of Italian homosexuals, lesbians, and transsexuals who will freely share their stories to finally open a genuine dialogue with the country.

“"It's finally a campaign that speaks directly to the hearts of heterosexuals and narrates, outside of stereotypes, the serenity that many of us experience today," explains a satisfied Paolo Patanè, national president of Arcigay.

I'm confident that this campaign, which creates immediate identification, will resolve many of the doubts of those who struggle to engage with us. Moreover, it will help many gays and lesbians who are still terrified of coming out to do so. We've long dreamed of being able to speak to the underbelly of the country, in weeklies, newspapers, and high-circulation magazines, and of opening a channel for dialogue online. We owe a huge thank you to DRAFTFCB and its partners. Weber Shandwick And  Initiative media, for having translated into reality our desire to speak frankly to everyone.".

Here are the graphics that will appear on the paper media and the videos of the campaign that allows access at multiple levels and will also be permanently available on Arcigay's YouTube channel "Differently Equal"“. Those who wish to participate in the campaign can tell their experience in a video here or write to Arcigay.
