Bologna, 24 February 2014 - “The proposals that Prime Minister-designate Matteo Renzi has presented in the Senate regarding the recognition of unions between people of the same sex do not inspire any confidence” Flavio Romani, president of Arcigay, commented on the Prime Minister's speech in Parliament. "To suggest a compromise between the poles of the broad coalition," says the head of Arcigay, "on issues on which even within the Democratic Party alone has never managed to reach agreement is clearly a fairy tale, revealing yet another trap for LGBT people. Compromise on these issues, among other things," adds Romani, "is not only impossible but not even desirable, because any approximation to total equality between heterosexual and homosexual couples would imply the denial of full rights. Furthermore, the rhetoric of compromise," concludes Romani, "is the recurring theme that has paralyzed and sterilized the debate on LGBT rights in Italy for thirty years.
