Orlando massacre: Arcigay to Renzi: "Concrete policies are needed to combat hatred."“

Bologna, June 14, 2016 – “We read about the meeting between Prime Minister Renzi and the US Ambassador to Italy, and we are pleased to join the Prime Minister in expressing his condolences for the Orlando victims,” said Gabriele Piazzoni, national secretary of Arcigay. “Renzi is right,” he continued, “Italy must also do its part to defeat hatred. Because, in a certain sense, we are all survivors of that attack in a world that has globalized hatred towards LGBTI people. We therefore need to make concrete commitments: scheduling a bill against homotransphobia that has been stalled in the Senate for hundreds of days, and unblocking initiatives to educate about differences and combat discrimination. Because anyone who backs down on these battles is playing into the hands of those who have taken up arms. Instead, we need to distance ourselves from that thinking and deliver concrete responses to those who sow terror.”.
