LGBTQIA+, HUNGARY APPROVES LAW TO BAN PRIDE PARADES. PIAZZONI (ARCIGAY): "UNCONSCIOUS, THE UNION MUST BE STRICT AND ACT ACCORDINGLY."”
Bologna, March 18, 2025 – "This is the Europe we don't want, and this is what the European Union should fight against": this is how Gabriele Piazzoni, secretary general of Arcigay, commented on the Hungarian parliament's approval of the law banning Pride in that country. "We don't need an arms race to defend Europe; we need the rigor to establish what is and isn't Europe. We need an inviolable culture of democracy, rights, and justice. How will Europe defend itself if it breeds the snakes that poison it? We demand clear, unequivocal statements on this: Orbán's policies are outside the EU. This must be said once and for all, and then acted upon using all available sanctions against the Hungarian government and the protection of the LGBTQIA+ community, the target of blatant persecution in that country," Piazzoni concluded.
