NO TO TRANSPHOBIA: THE MUNICIPALITY OF NEMBRO LEGITIMIZES HATRED, WE WILL NOT STAY SILENT

As President of Arcigay Bergamo Cives, I express profound indignation and anger at the event scheduled for Saturday, May 24, at the “Tullio Carrara” Library in Nembro, entitled “Dialogue with Women Resisting the Erasure of Femininity.”.

A headline that, behind superficial rhetoric, hides a direct and violent attack on trans people, particularly trans women, accused of threatening or "erasing" female identity. This narrative is false, dangerous, and profoundly discriminatory.

The announced speakers are known for their transphobic positions, based on the denial of gender identity as a fundamental human right. It is unacceptable for a municipal administration to grant public spaces to those who sow hatred, divide, and dehumanize.

Every person's identity deserves respect, listening, and protection. The right to self-determination cannot be questioned: it is guaranteed.

We wonder if the organizers and promoters of this event have ever listened to the real lives of trans people, their stories, the daily discrimination, the physical and psychological aggression they suffer.

These events are not “debates,” they are acts of exclusion disguised as confrontation.

Arcigay Bergamo Cives will not remain silent.

We reject all forms of transphobia, even those disguised as alleged feminism.

There is no liberation based on exclusion.

We demand public spaces that speak to inclusion, self-determination, and rights.

With every trans person, always.

Nicola Butta
